Softball Recap: Fort Atkinson Drops Highest Score of Season Against Monona Grove

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Atkinson). They blew past the Monona Grove Silver Eagles 13-4 on Tuesday. The Blackhawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 12-2).

Mia Bilau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Olivia Rue and Olivia Knickrehm did most of the damage at the plate: Rue went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Knickrehm went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Knickrehm a new career-high. Kinley Wargolet was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fort Atkinson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Fort Atkinson's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Monona Grove, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Atkinson will challenge Oregon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Blackhawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monona Grove, they will head out to take on Beaver Dam at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Silver Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Beavers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
