League recap: Indio's Chavarria delivers best pitching performance from past week

Desert Valley league recap: 3/13/13

Alex Chavarria was the best pitcher in Desert Valley this week, leading Indio. He won two games and struck out 13 batters.

The Rajahs outpaced the rest of the league this week, as their three total wins led the league. Indio beat Granite Hills 3-2, Miller 9-7 and Summit 3-2.

La Quinta put just two batters on base with walks in the past week, but Coachella Valley's pitching staff has had the best control this season, surrendering a walk only six times in 20 innings this year.

Chavarria leads the league in both wins and strikeouts this season after another strong week, during which he recorded two wins and 13 Ks.

Eight batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Kelly Arcand, who hit .750 by going 3-for-4.



Chavarria struck out eight in the Rajahs' 3-2 win over the Cougars on March 12. Over his eight innings pitched he allowed two runs on four hits.

The Arabs' Jesus Pena-moreno threw seven shutout innings in a 10-0 win over Desert Mirage on Tuesday. He struck out seven, allowing two hits.
