Softball Preview: East Haven Yellowjackets vs. North Branford Thunderbirds

East Haven and North Branford are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The East Haven Yellowjackets will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the North Branford Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m.

East Haven lost 11-2 to North Haven on Wednesday. East Haven has not had much luck with North Haven recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, in what's become a running theme this season, North Branford gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Valley Regional with a sharp 22-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for North Branford who now have six in a row.

Lauren Vitarisi made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Vitarisi has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Vitarisi was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Lindsey Onofrio was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Lexi Falcioni was another key contributor, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

East Haven now has a losing record at 4-5. As for North Branford, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
