Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Richwood). They put the hurt on the Greenbrier West Cavaliers with a sharp 20-8 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Parker Giles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Richwood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-7 otherwise. Giles was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Richwood got a massive performance out of Kaden Lane, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Lane is becoming a predictor of the Lumberjacks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Jenkins, who went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Richwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .604. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenbrier West only posted an OBP of .429.
The victory got Richwood back to even at 7-7. As for Greenbrier West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richwood will welcome Greater Beckley Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lumberjacks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
