Softball Recap: Scott Comes Up Short

Scott had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-9 to make it nine. They came up short against the Goodland Cowboys, falling 16-1. The Beavers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cowboys apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Scott saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Crissa Irvin, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Goodland, their record now sits at 4-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Goodland's side, Allison Cure was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Cure has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Goodland let Elly Evert and Alessa Rickard run wild. Evert went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Rickard went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Rickard a new career-high. Hayden Short was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Scott had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
