Baseball Recap: Caldwell Academy Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Caldwell Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Calvary Day School Cougars 9-8. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Cougars on Tuesday, they had to take a 11-10 defeat.

Brett Bullins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Caldwell Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-11 otherwise. Bullins was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Neal Swindell, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Caldwell Academy is undefeated when Swindell posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer McBurney, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Caldwell Academy's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 9-12. As for Calvary Day School, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-7.

When Caldwell Academy and Calvary Day School next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Caldwell Academy will try to stop Faith Christian's 15-game winning streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Calvary Day School will take on High Point Christian Academy and their nine-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Calvary Day School has won four straight at home, while High Point Christian Academy won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
