Valley Christian extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 21-5-1 in the process. They blew past the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish 17-1. That looming 17-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.
Brock Ketelsen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Kole Laubach looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Logan Mull, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Jordan Ortiz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Valley Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory only posted an OBP of .222.
As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered against Valley Christian since March 12, 2019.
On Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's side, they got a good showing from Jacob Vines, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Vines has become a key player for the Fightin' Irish: the team is 7-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-12 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santino Baisman, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Valley Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Fightin' Irish: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
