Softball Recap: Nocona Comes Up Short

Nocona extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 15-11 in the process. They came up short against the Windthorst Trojans, falling 10-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on Thursday.

Skye Kirby was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

As for Windthorst, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-12. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Windthorst's side, Jalyn Benson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Benson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Karissa Fillingim was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sophie Reese, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

While Nocona had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
