Football Game Preview: Bergan Catholic Knights vs. Wood River Eagles

The Bergan Catholic Knights will be playing at home against the Wood River Eagles on Friday. Bergan Catholic's defense has only allowed 7.9 points per game this season, so Wood River's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Wood River will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Bergan Catholic extended their winning streak to six on Friday. The Knights put the hurt on Arlington with a sharp 34-12 win. Considering the Knights have won seven contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Trent Mlnarik continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 153 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 153 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Scheuler, who threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Wood River entered their matchup against Doniphan-Trumbull on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Eagles came up short against the Cardinals, falling 30-6. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Bergan Catholic will have to keep a close watch on Madden Brabec and Jace Stewart, a pair of players who had a big impact on Wood River's prior game. Brabec rushed for 89 yards, while Stewart picked up 78 receiving yards and one score.

Wood River's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Bergan Catholic, their record now sits at 8-1.
