Baseball Recap: Mulberry Comes Up Short

Mulberry has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.42 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They took a 15-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McKeel Academy Wildcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Brock Thielen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Hayden Wyatt, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Mulberry and nudges their season record down to 17-7. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for McKeel Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Mulberry will face off against Fort Meade at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers are facing the Miners at the right time seeing as the Miners are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for McKeel Academy, they will challenge Lakeland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
