Basketball Game Preview: Canton Warriors vs. Sayre Redskins

The Canton Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Sayre Redskins at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Canton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Williamson 60-38 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for Canton as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Sayre entered their tilt with North Penn-Liberty on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Mountie with a sharp 75-49 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 59-33.

Sayre had a senior duo take command as Ryan Ressler dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 boards and Nick Pellicano went 7 for 17 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ressler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Griffin, who posted 13 points.

Sayre has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Canton, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Canton was taken down by Sayre 60-26 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Canton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
