Basketball Recap: Auburn Takes Down Ranked Opelika

On Monday, Auburn faced Opelika in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Auburn Tigers snuck past the Opelika Bulldogs with a 56-51 win. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Auburn's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tabari Allen, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Allen a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Antwane Daniels, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Auburn has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Opelika, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-5.

Auburn didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-40 win against Benjamin Russell on the 14th. As for Opelika, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-46 victory against Smiths Station on the 17th.
