Madison West came out on top against Vel Phillips Memorial on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Regents had just enough and edged out the Spartans 10-9. Madison West's win was all the more impressive since the Spartans were averaging only 3.05 runs allowed on the season.

For Vel Phillips Memorial's part, Oliver Soldat was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Tyler Craig also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Madison West's victory bumped their record up to 9-15. As for Vel Phillips Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5-1.
