Preview: Boulder Panthers vs. Fort Collins Lambkins
Boulder has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Fort Collins Lambkins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Boulder focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Last Friday, Boulder came up short against Fossil Ridge and fell 54-43.
The losing side was boosted by Megan Matthews, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
Meanwhile, Fort Collins had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They had just enough and edged Broomfield out 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Fort Collins has posted yet this season.
Fort Collins relied on the efforts of Jocelyn Kramar, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds, and Avery Alcaraz, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Fry, who scored six points.
Boulder has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Fort Collins, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Boulder have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.7% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Fort Collins struggles in that department as they've nailed 40.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Boulder was dealt a bruising 46-8 defeat at the hands of Fort Collins in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Boulder was down 33-5.
