Softball Recap: Northwood Takes a Loss

After flying high against Virginia High on Friday, Northwood came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 5-1 to the Rural Retreat Indians on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Northwood's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Rural Retreat, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwood will square off against Holston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Rural Retreat, they will head out to challenge Chilhowie at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
