Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Martin Davis and Jakai Alston Lead Brunswick to Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Brunswick rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the South Paulding Spartans, sneaking past 46-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since January 19, 2024.

Leading Brunswick to victory were Jakai Alston and Martin Davis. Alston almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds, while Davis posted 12 points. With that strong performance, Alston is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Walker, who put up five points and three steals.

Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 31 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, South Paulding saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lindsey Henry dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. Henry is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Chloe Vandyke was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

Brunswick has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. South Paulding's defeat dropped their record down to 16-12.

Brunswick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-35 win against Habersham Central on the 22nd. South Paulding does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
