Softball Game Preview: South Iredell Vikings vs. Cox Mill Chargers

The South Iredell Vikings will square off against the Cox Mill Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Iredell has three straight wins, Cox Mill has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If South Iredell beats Cox Mill with eight runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past East Lincoln 8-7.

Caroline Constable was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Myers, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cox Mill came up short against Concord on Thursday, falling 16-1.

Cox Mill's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for South Iredell, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Cox Mill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Iredell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Cox Mill, though, as they've been averaging 12.9 hits. Given South Iredell's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.

South Iredell took their victory against Cox Mill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
