Softball Recap: Lake Linden-Hubbell Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lake Linden-Hubbell had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] Miners by a score of 5-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-2 back in April.

Payton Goldsworthy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Goldsworthy, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cleo Milkey, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lake Linden-Hubbell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Lake Linden-Hubbell's record is now 31-2. As for Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield], they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Lake Linden-Hubbell has already played their next matchup, a 4-3 loss against Hancock on the 29th. Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
