Softball Game Preview: Crowley Gent vs. Eunice Btlng Bobcats

The Crowley Gent will head out on the road to square off against the Eunice Btlng Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Thursday, Crowley made easy work of Elton and carried off a 22-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Gent, who have now won nine games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eunice). Their pitchers stepped up to hand LaGrange a 23-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Btlng Bobcats in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won five in a row.

Mika Fontenot and Madelyn Smith made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Fontenot pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Fontenot got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Smith got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Eva Sattler was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Lailynn Simon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Eunice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Crowley's record now sits at 9-13. As for Eunice, their record is now 10-15.

Crowley suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Eunice when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Gent avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
