Softball Preview: Pace Vikings vs. Harlingen South Hawks

Pace is 0-6 against Harlingen South since February of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will welcome the Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Pace is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Pace proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 17) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Edinburg North 3-2. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Vikings have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Nubia Alvarado made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Megan Mares was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Harlingen South came up short against Calallen on Friday, falling 13-2.
