Pace is 0-6 against Harlingen South since February of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will welcome the Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Pace is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Pace proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 17) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Edinburg North 3-2. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Vikings have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Nubia Alvarado made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Megan Mares was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Harlingen South came up short against Calallen on Friday, falling 13-2.
Harlingen South saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evette Garcia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Pace's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Harlingen South, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pace hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Harlingen South struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pace might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Harlingen South in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
