Football Game Preview: Boyd Yellowjackets vs. Vernon Lions + How To Watch

The Boyd Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to square off against the Vernon Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Boyd has given up an average of 26.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Friday, Boyd didn't have quite enough to beat Ponder and fell 32-29. While the Yellowjackets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 14-7 in the first quarter.

Boyd's defeat came about despite a quality game from Aiden Young, who rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Lions on Friday. Vernon really took it to Ponder for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-13 victory. The contest marked Vernon's most dominant win of the season so far.

Vernon's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 4.5 times. In that department, Adrain Felton was the leader with two sacks.

Vernon's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.4 points on average over those games. As for Boyd, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 3-2.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Boyd has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 200.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 182.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Boyd might still be hurting after the 41-21 defeat they got from Vernon in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Yellowjackets, Carson Schoppa (who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
