Recap: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers
After a string of three wins, the Mt. Carmel Sundevils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Mission Bay on the road by a decisive 61-45 margin. While losing is never fun, Mt. Carmel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while Mission Bay is ranked 133rd).
Despite the loss, Mt. Carmel had strong showings from Gianni Bernabe, who scored 17 points, and Raymond Hourani, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Hourani has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Milder, who scored seven points.
Mt. Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Mission Bay, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Mt. Carmel will be home for the holidays to greet St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mission Bay, they will head out on the road to face off against Torrey Pines at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
