It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Columbia ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against the Royal Falcons by a score of 28-21. Winning may never get old, but the Roughnecks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mudassir Abdullah, who picked up 95 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 62 yards and one TD on only six carries. Abdullah got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 73 yards. Another passer making a difference was Cade Thoe, who threw for 154 yards and a pair of TDs.
Columbia's defense stepped up as well, laying out Emory Oliver three times. Gatlin Lancaster was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. Another thorn in Royal's side was Kriztopher Alvarez, who picked up a sack, made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Despite the loss, Royal still got an impressive performance from Tyler Gilmore, who rushed for 96 yards and three scores.
Columbia now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Royal, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Columbia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 41-7 win against Sweeny on the 17th. As for Royal, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 63-21 defeat against La Marque on the 17th.
