1A Western Slope recap November 5, 2013

Paonia added to the longest winning streak in 1A Western Slope this week by beating Colorado Springs Christian, 34-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Eagles.

Paonia took down the Lions 34-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Taylor Walters threw for 83 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 133 yards in the win.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Cedaredge's Trent Walker and Kyle Ward have proven to be a lethal combination. Walker has thrown for 1,218 yards this season, while Ward has 50 catches for 747 yards. Walters from Brent McRae's team leads the league in rushing with 1,665 yards.

In 133 carries Alex Smith has accumulated 914 yard this year.

The Eagles made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,845 from 5,182. The advance stemmed from a 34-6 victory over Colorado Springs Christian last week.
