Baseball Game Preview: Shaker Heights Red Raiders vs. Mentor Cardinals

Shaker Heights is 1-9 against Mentor since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Red Raiders will welcome the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Shaker Heights is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to Gilmour Academy.

Meanwhile, while it was Mentor who put the first runs on the board on Saturday, it was GlenOak who put up more. The Cardinals fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 3-2. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Austin Vanhuss was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Tyson Cendrowski also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mentor fell to 4-1. As for Shaker Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Shaker Heights skirted past Mentor 9-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Red Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
