The Payson Longhorns will face off against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Monday, Payson didn't have quite enough to beat Bourgade Catholic and fell 7-6. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Golden Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Tatum Weinland and Windsong Burdette stepped up to the plate in a big way. Weinland scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Burdette scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Breezey Morgan, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Benjamin Franklin and Gilbert Christian have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Chargers blew past the Knights 18-3. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Chargers this season.
Benjamin Franklin got a massive performance out of Jaelyn Castaneda, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Castaneda also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Addysen Yarn was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2.
Benjamin Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert Christian only posted an OBP of .421.
Payson's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Benjamin Franklin, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Payson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Benjamin Franklin struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
