Baseball Recap: Plattsmouth Takes a Loss

Plattsmouth extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-5. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Auburn Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 8-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Derek Nanke was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Tripp Fitzpatrick made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Crosby Fullerton, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Auburn, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Auburn's side, Gavin Bauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. Bauer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Auburn's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Clayton Brown, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Plattsmouth is set to square off against their familiar foe Arlington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Auburn will face off against rival Raymond Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
