Volleyball Recap: Hernando Tigers vs. Lewisburg Patriots
Hernando faced Lewisburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-0 defeat on Thursday.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Hernando sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 16-25, 15-11.
Sage McCallum paced Hernando's offense, picking up eight kills. McCallum got some help from Amberlee Holley and her 14 assists. Finally, Kylee Garcia kept Hernando's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.
Lewisburg can attribute much of their success to Laney Wier, who had ten digs and four assists. Wier is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Hernando's loss ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-15. As for Lewisburg, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 26-8.
Coming up, Hernando will head out on the road to square off against Southaven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lewisburg, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Lake Cormorant on the 27th.
