Baseball Recap: Ketchikan Wins Going Away Against Chugiak

Ketchikan won the last time they faced Chugiak and things went their way on Saturday too. The Kings put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 8-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Kings.

Ace Asper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has become a key player for Ketchikan: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Owen Mendoza was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Ketchikan is undefeated when Mendoza posts two or more runs, but 2-6-1 otherwise. Thomas Kroscavage was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Ketchikan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Ketchikan's record now sits at 5-6-1. As for Chugiak, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3-1.

Ketchikan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chugiak, they will head out to square off against West Anchorage at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
