The Armijo Royals will venture away from home to take on the Jesuit Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Armijo will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Armijo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Cordova.
Willie Nickson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Nickson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Chase Lewis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Juan Uscanga, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jesuit). They put the hurt on Bradshaw Christian with a sharp 17-3 win on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Like Armijo, Jesuit also got a great game from a two-way player: Sammy Kane. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kane has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jesuit got a massive performance out of Cade Colombara, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Colombara a new career-high. Diego Foley also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Armijo's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
