Recap: Grafton Bearcats vs. Preston Knights
After losing to the Preston Knights the last time they met, the Grafton Bearcats decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Grafton walked away with a 59-49 win over Preston on Tuesday.
Grafton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hadley Horne led the charge by scoring 21 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Horne has scored at least a third of Grafton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazy Ray, who scored 19 points along with five assists.
Preston's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isabella Miller, who scored 17 points, and Kendra Nazelrod who scored nine points along with four blocks. Nazelrod is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cameryn Sypolt, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Grafton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Preston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grafton will face off against Fairmont Senior at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairmont Senior is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Preston, they will head out on the road to challenge Philip Barbour at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Philip Barbour will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
