Softball Recap: North Star Wins Going Away Against Turkeyfoot Valley Area

While North Star didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams with a sharp 13-3 victory on Monday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.

Laiken Grove made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grove was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Morgan Snyder was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kayley Brant, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

North Star was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turkeyfoot Valley Area only posted a batting average of .292.

North Star pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, North Star will take on Windber at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they will challenge Blacklick Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
