Volleyball Preview: Good Hope Raiders vs. East Lawrence Eagles
Good Hope is 3-0 against East Lawrence since August of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Good Hope Raiders will be staying on the road to face off against the East Lawrence Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Good Hope didn't have quite enough to beat Vinemont and fell 2-1.
Good Hope actually scored more points across those three sets (51-50), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 10-25, 25-14, 15-12.
Meanwhile, East Lawrence earned a 2-0 win over Clements last Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
East Lawrence was dominant in the second set, but otherwise had just enough against a tough Clements squad. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-12.
East Lawrence can attribute much of their success to Makayla Austin, who had six digs and 19 assists. Austin is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season.
Good Hope has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-13 record this season. As for East Lawrence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Good Hope was able to grind out a solid victory over East Lawrence in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, winning 2-0. Will Good Hope repeat their success, or does East Lawrence have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
