Baseball Recap: Dequincy Extends Winning Streak to Eight

DeQuincy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They put the hurt on Oberlin with a sharp 20-5 victory. The result was nothing new for DeQuincy, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Diron Valentine made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, DeQuincy got a massive performance out of Nolan Schrader, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Schrader has posted since back in February. Turner Rodriquez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

DeQuincy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

DeQuincy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oberlin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

DeQuincy will face off against Notre Dame at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (DeQuincy 3.9, Notre Dame 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Oberlin, they will welcome Hathaway at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
