2A Conference 9 recap September 4, 2013
Central Academy's DeShawn Morrison rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A Conference 9 this season in his game against Highland Tech last week. Morrison ran for 58 yards on the play and finished with 142 on the day as his team topped Highland Tech.
Parkwood scaled the state rankings by moving to 186 from 236 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rebels were able to make move up by besting Union Academy 42-7.
West Stanly's dynamic duo of Matt Price and Ethan Morgan proved to be unstoppable against South Stanly, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Price threw for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns and Morgan had 60 yards receiving. Taylan Rowe helped West Stanly's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 36 yards.
The Colts' dynamic duo of Price and Morgan proved tough for the Rowdy Rebel Bulls to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Price put up the best numbers through the air as West Stanly bested South Stanly.
Morrison provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Central Academy topped Highland Tech.
Morgan was the best wideout in the league this week as James Johnson's team bested the Rowdy Rebel Bulls.
Morrison was the most successful running back in 2A Conference 9 this week. Sergio Gomez also contributed to the rushing game with 114 yards on the ground.
Parkwood's Grey Wyrick and Sam Mobley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wyrick has thrown for 221 yards this season, while Mobley, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 4 catches for 155 yards. Morrison from Tad Baucom's team leads the league in rushing with 217 yards.
The Cougars were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Central Academy beat Highland Tech 33-6 earlier in the week.
