Recap: Hammond Golden Bears vs. Magruder Colonels
On Thursday, things could have been worse for Hammond, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-42 loss to Magruder. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Hammond has scored all season.
Magruder's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ethan Crandall led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five steals. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Yannick Mbonda, who scored two points along with 14 rebounds and five blocks.
Hammond now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Magruder, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Hammond and Atholton will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Atholton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday. As for Magruder, they will head out on the road to face off against Watkins Mill at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Watkins Mill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Magruder is ranked 45th).
