Basketball Recap: Highland Piles Up the Points Against Desert Ridge

A well-balanced attack led Highland over Desert Ridge in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Highland Hawks blew the Desert Ridge Jaguars out of the water with a 74-36 final score. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 24 points or more this season.

Highland found their leader in sophomore Bailey Williams, who went 9 for 16 en route to 23 points along with six boards and four steals. Thanks to that strong game, Williams now owns an excellent 41% three-point shooting accuracy. Peyton Jacobsen was another key player, going 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points.

Highland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Highland now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Desert Ridge, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will face off against Gilbert at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gilbert will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Highland surely won't give up without a fight. As for Desert Ridge, they and Queen Creek will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
