Basketball Recap: Sahuarita Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Camila Villalobos and Abby Silvester

Sahuarita was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 38-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rincon/University Rangers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-31 back in November.

Sahuarita's loss came despite strong showings from Abby Silvester and Camila Villalobos. Silvester posted seven points and eight rebounds, while Villalobos earned ten points. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Ortega, who had five points.

Even though they lost, Sahuarita smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Rincon/University got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leila O'Dowd out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was O'Dowd's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daphne Safo, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.

Sahuarita's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Rincon/University, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-4.

Sahuarita wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 45-38 win against ALA - Gilbert North on the 18th. As for Rincon/University, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-33 loss against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on the 27th.
