The Piedmont Hills Pirates will take on the Pioneer Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Piedmont Hills turned things around against Overfelt on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 27-6 margin over the Royals. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 20-0.
Piedmont Hills' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Arias, who picked up 176 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Arias really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 83 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was John Palomo, who threw for 265 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt.
Piedmont Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Alexavier Rivera and Cash Martinez. Donovan Johnson was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making four total tackles.
Meanwhile, Pioneer strolled past Silver Creek with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 21-6.
Pioneer's win came from a few key players Piedmont Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Connor Christensen, who picked up 81 receiving yards and a pair of scores. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending one pass. Braeden Ries was another key signal caller, throwing for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.
Pioneer didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Silver Creek to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. The team can thank Thomas Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. That defensive display was nothing new: Pioneer has limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive games.
The win got Pioneer back to even at 3-3. As for Piedmont Hills, the victory also got them back to even at 3-3.
