Softball Recap: San Clemente Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northgate

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Clemente). They blew past the Northgate Broncos 14-3 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Tritons sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Luca Cifuentes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, San Clemente let Havyn Nekritz and Emily Racine run wild. Nekritz went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Racine scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Racine has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Westerfield, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

San Clemente hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

San Clemente's record is now 16-5-1. As for Northgate, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: San Clemente beat Northgate by a score of 7-3 later that day.
