South San Francisco is a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South San Francisco has nine straight victories, Jefferson has 20 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If South San Francisco beats Jefferson with nine runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Warriors walked away with a 9-6 win over Summit Shasta on Saturday.
Vince Bernal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in ten consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilio Oseguera, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Ornelas, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
South San Francisco hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Crystal Springs Uplands hit Jefferson with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Grizzlies came up short against the Gryphons, falling 13-1.
South San Francisco's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.
Everything went South San Francisco's way against Jefferson in their previous meeting back in March, as South San Francisco made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
