Softball Game Preview: Vermilion Sailors vs. Lorain Titans

The Vermilion Sailors will square off against the Lorain Titans at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Vermilion has now lost 13 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 25.

Vermilion came up short against Edison on Monday, falling 12-4. That's two games in a row now that the Sailors have lost by exactly eight runs.

Lilly Porter and Avery Jonovich did some serious damage despite the final result: Porter went 2-for-3 with one run and one double, while Jonovich went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lorain). They blew past Cleveland Heights 27-17 on Wednesday. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Alonna Coleman was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyann Gonzalez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Lorain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lorain's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Vermilion, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
