Recap: Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars vs. Elkhorn Valley Falcons
This season hasn't been kind to the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars, who are still winless after their 14th game. They had to suffer through a rough 52-11 loss at the hands of Elkhorn Valley. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Niobrara/Verdigre in their matchups with Elkhorn Valley: they've now lost six in a row.
Elkhorn Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kellyn Ollendick led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Ollendick has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Hansen, who scored 13 points along with five steals and two blocks.
Niobrara/Verdigre's defeat was their 14th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.8 points per game. As for Elkhorn Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Coincidentally, Niobrara/Verdigre and Elkhorn Valley will both be playing North Central the next time they take the court. Elkhorn Valley will head out to face North Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Niobrara/Verdigre will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
