After a string of ten wins, Mathis's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orange Grove Bulldogs. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Mathis got a massive performance out of Leilani Cantu, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jada Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Mathis' defeat dropped their record down to 16-7-1. As for Orange Grove, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-15-1 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Mathis by a score of 13-8 later that day.
