Softball Recap: McMinn County Victorious

McMinn County's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the McMinn Central Chargers by a score of 6-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cherokees also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

Bailey Derrick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trinity Riedel, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

McMinn County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McMinn Central only posted a batting average of .250.

McMinn County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for McMinn Central, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-5.

McMinn County has already played their next game, a 5-0 defeat against Cleveland on the 1st. As for McMinn Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-6 victory against Loudon on the 28th.
