Soccer Game Preview: Mt. Vernon vs. Vinton-Shellsburg

The Mt. Vernon Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Vernon's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon came up short against Independence, falling 3-0. That's two games in a row now that Mt. Vernon has lost by exactly three goals.

Meanwhile, after a string of ten wins, Vinton-Shellsburg's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 5-1 to Center Point-Urbana.

Vinton-Shellsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7-1. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5-3.

Mt. Vernon couldn't quite get it done against Vinton-Shellsburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
