Baseball Game Preview: Piqua Indians vs. West Carrollton Pirates

Piqua is a perfect 10-0 against West Carrollton since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Indians are taking a road trip to take on the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. West Carrollton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Piqua, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, it was close, but Piqua sidestepped Miamisburg for a 7-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

Jerry Anthony looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Piqua: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Owen Shawler was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Steinke, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, West Carrollton suffered their closest loss since April 30, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Piqua by a score of 4-2. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

West Carrollton now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Piqua, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Piqua skirted past West Carrollton 4-2 when the teams last played on Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
