Football Recap: Red Springs Red Devils vs. Clinton Dark Horses
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Red Springs). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Clinton Dark Horses on Friday, sneaking past 36-34. For the Red Devils, this counts as revenge for the 56-15 defeat the Dark Horses walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2023.
Jakelsin Mack was his usual excellent self, rushing for 194 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 84-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Taquan (TJ) Ellerbe, who gained 123 total yards and a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Red Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 331 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.
Red Springs wouldn't let Clinton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Red Springs can thank Nathan Norton and Patrick Locklear for forcing both of them.
Red Springs' win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Clinton, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Red Springs will challenge Midway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Midway will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Red Springs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clinton, they will host St. Pauls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Pauls knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Clinton likes a good challenge.
