Football Game Preview: Gresham Gophers vs. Summit Storm

The Gresham Gophers will take on the Summit Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Gresham sitting on five straight wins and Summit on nine.

On Friday, Gresham didn't have too much trouble with La Salle as they won 34-16.

Liam Arnold had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 277 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 35 yards and one TD. He has become a key player for Gresham: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Joshua Calderon helped out on the ground, rushing for 122 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gresham was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 416 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Gresham's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Izayiah Moore, Ronald Menyfield, and Gavin Knobbs, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, while Summit put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Caldera. The Storm took their contest with ease, bagging a 47-0 victory over Caldera. That 47 point margin sets a new team best for the Storm this season.

Gresham's record is now 6-3. As for Summit, their record now sits at 9-0.
