Basketball Recap: Bayshore Comes Up Short

Bayshore lost against Southeast back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bayshore Bruins had to suffer through a 85-48 loss at the hands of the Southeast Seminoles. The Bruins were down 68-38 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Bayshore lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Anthony Matute, who posted six points. Matute is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Jayce Brave was another key player, putting up eight points.

Southeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jalen Byrd led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Byrd also posted five blocks, which is notable because Southeast is 7-2 when he posts at least five blocks, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jamarri Bivens, who went 7 of 12 to rack up 21 points.

Bayshore has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.1 points over those games. As for Southeast, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9.

Bayshore has already played their next matchup, an 89-50 defeat against Booker on the 3rd. As for Southeast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-57 loss against East Bay on the 5th.
